Trauma and Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Experiencing a traumatic event can
sometimes remain in the mind as if it happened only yesterday. This
is due to the emotions of that time being held in the part of the
brain called the amygdala, preventing the memories and emotions from
being processed naturally in the neo cortex, which is involved in
rational thought.
This emotional hijacking within the
amygdala keeps us in a permanent state of high anxiety and emotional
arousal which can give rise to PTSD. Symptoms include distressing
recollections of the event, recurring night mares and flashbacks.
If left untreated it can result in
panic attacks and depression as well as the physical symptoms of
long term stress such as high blood pressure and digestive problems.
How can
Hypnotherapy help?
Utilising the Rewind Technique
traumatic memories can be successfully treated in one session. The
relaxed state of hypnosis allows the subconscious mind to view the
trauma in a calm and relaxed way enabling the amygdala to release it
to the neo cortex. You are left with a natural memory of the event
but without the unpleasant emotions that had previously surrounded
it. This is a highly effective, gentle treatment which does not
require you to relive the trauma or talk about it in any way.
